We visited Minas Gerais with the school. We went to 4 cities, Ouro Preto, Mariana, Congonhas and Tiradentes. All these cities are very important and have a similar history, because of their mines of gold and precious gems in the 17th and 18th century.

Best Moments:

For us the best moment of the trip was when we saw Tião Paineira. He is a legend in the town and he is very happy and proud  for everything he did.

Tips:

It is a good idea to drink a lot of water and use sunblock, because you walk a lot under the sun. Also bring money to buy the various artcrafts and don't forget the camera.

How to get there:

You can take a plane to Belo Horizonte, this is the faster way, but is more expensive. You can also go by car or bus, but it takes approximately 7 to 8 hours.

What to take:

On a sunny day you can wear shorts, t-shirt, comfortable shoes (to take a long walk) and a hat. At nightime, a pair of jeans, a sweater and nice shoes is all you are going to need.

Where to eat / What to eat:

You can eat in the restaurant called “Casa dos Contos”, for us is the most delicious food in the area, but there is another  good restaurant, the “Divino Sabor”. A delicious typical food is “Pão de queijo”.

Where to stay:

You can stay in Mariana, in  Hotel Providencia (the website is in the interesting links), the hotel is very nice and cosy. In Tiradentes the hotel is called Ponta do Morro, it is more sofisticated than the hotel of Mariana and there is a pool and a game room!

What to do/Where to go:

In Ouro Preto, you can go to the church of Nossa Senhora do Pilar, that has a lot of gold in it. The art of Aleijadinho, it is very beautiful. In Casa dos Contos there was the first melting house and you can see the slaves' house as well. It is so terrible to see how they suffered.
You can  also go to the mine of Chico Rei, one of the most important gold mine.
You can't forget to visit Tião Paineira, a legend in the city.
For us, the most beatiful place in this trip was Congonhas where there are the profets, the masterpiece of Aleijadinho.
